Tank Maverick Receives Great Reviews

Tank Maverick has been on sale for almost 2 weeks now, and the initial player response on the App Store has been extremely positive:

The ipad needed a great sim and this is it. I'm tired of watered down gameplay. It of course would take learned skill to pilot a real tank and so it is with this game. Though it is still very much a game...not an ultra serious sim.

My only issue is that I think the game should default to swipe controls for the view. Just go to the options menu to change that if you need to. It currently defaults to tilt swipe combo.

Most fun I've had on the ipad. Go for it.

i love that game i want it for my iphone too!!!!!

Tank Maverick Released

The full version of Tank Maverick in all its glory is now available worldwide on the App Store.

Simply put, Tank Maverick is a 3D first person tank combat action/strategy game designed specifically for the iPad.

In both graphics and gameplay Tank Maverick strikes the right balance between the complexity of a simulator and the simplicity of your typical turn-and-shoot handheld tank game. The result is a fulfilling tank commanding experience which is both challenging and fun.

Tank Maverick also features a relatively unique control mechanic. The typical tilt-to-look-up-and-down control is there, but it has been extended: Tilting your device all the way back causes the view to look all the way down into the tank's cockpit, revealing the full-screen radar view. This feature struck a popular chord with a lot of our testers. It's all part of creating the illusion of being right there amongst the action, and feedback suggests that it works well.

There are currently 2 game modes. "Campaign" mode is story-driven with 2 tutorial levels plus 7 distinct battle scenarios. While the number of campaign levels may seem limited at first glance, each level is fairly extensive. In addition players will often need to retry the same level multiple times, progressing further by changing their tactics with each attempt as they take on board the many lessons there are to learn naturally on the battlefield.

For a more fast-paced pick-up-and-play experience, "Survival" mode dumps you onto one of 4 maps and hurls an endless barrage of enemies at you. High scores can be submitted to both OpenFeint and Game Center for full bragging rights.

For an indie-developed game, Tank Maverick contains a surprisingly epic soundtrack. This is entirely thanks to the generosity of the guys from California-based metal band Severed Fifth, who share their music very permissively and were kind enough to let me use it in Tank Maverick.

Tank Maverick Lite Released

The free version, Tank Maverick Lite is now available on the App Store.

Tank Maverick Lite contains the first four tank-busting levels exactly as they appear in the full version. We encourage you to click the "Available on the App Store" button on the right which will take you straight to the download. The full version is still in the works so if you have any feedback now it the time to let us know as we will be releasing a huge update to Tank Maverick Lite which will include all of the improvements that make it into the full version.
